Abstract: |
Microwave photonic (MWP) inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR), benefiting from unique advantages of photonics such as wide bandwidth, low transmission loss and inherent immunity to electromagnetic interference, achieves improved imaging resolution and large-scale distribution capacity for accurate three dimensional (3D) imaging. This paper introduces the achievements of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in MWP ISAR imaging. An MWP radar is developed by employing the photonic frequency doubling based signal generation and photonic-assisted stretch processing. The system operates in Ku band with a bandwidth of 600 MHz, and is eva-luated through a series of ISAR imaging tests both in a microwave anechoic chamber and in a field trial. Enabled by wavelength-division multiplexing and radio-over-fiber techniques, an extended MWP radar with a fiber-distri-buted antenna array is further established and accurate 3D imaging of three trihedral corner reflectors is achieved. The results verify the feasibility of MWP radar in 2D and 3D imaging and show its potential in improving the key performance of radar imaging. |
